International Science and Technology Engagement

News: upcoming and recent activities 


On 14th and 15th November I will attend the SMi Naval Mission Systems Technology Conference in Rome, Italy. On 16 November, in conjunction with the conference, I will present a half day tutorial “Systems and Technology for Maritime Situational Awareness.”


On 19th and 21st October I will participate in the NATO SET-207 SET-207: Advanced situation-specific modeling, sensing and vulnerability mitigation using passive radar technology meeting at Naval Base of Lisbon, Alfeite, Portugal.

From 2nd to 9th October I will participate in Breaking the Surface 2016, Biograd Da Moru, Croatia, and will present  tutorial, “Comments on the Management of Technology Startup Companies.”


On 14th and 15th September I will participate in the “SpeechXRays General Assembly” EU Biometrics grant meeting at Heraklion, Greece.

On 6th September I will present a short course “Cyber Threats and Solutions: a One Day Awareness Course for Senior Management” at UCL in London.


I will present a paper on Cognitive Radar and chair the Defence iQ Military Radar Conference in London from 30th to 31st August.


On 25th May I gave a seminar on “Quantum Information Science and Technology in the UK” by Webinar to ATIP.


From 30th to 31st March I participated in the “SpeechXRays General Assembly” EU Biometrics grant meeting and presented paper: “Standards for Biometrics" in Bucharest, Romania.

On 23rd March 2016 I participated in “The Future of Warfare NATO Symposium” at NATO Headquarters, Brussels, Belgium


From 22nd to 24th February 2016 I presented a short course: “Electronic Warfare - Overview of Technology & Operations” in Columbia, Maryland.

On 3rd December 2015 I presented a short course “Technological Impact on Operations for C4ISR” at the Holiday Inn, Regents Park, London, UK.


From 17th to 18th November 2015 I hosted the semi-annual review of the EU Horizon 2020 sponsored grant: “SpeechXRays” at University College London, UK

From 11th to 12th November 2015 I Co-chaired with Hugh Griffiths “Radar Vectors Workshop”, Sponsored by the US Office of Naval Research Global at University College London, London, UK


On 1st October 2015 I attended Cyber Security and Managerial Challenges: International Issues and Approaches and presented a paper “Building a Resilient Approach to Cyber Operations.” Franklin University in Lugano, Switzerland. 


From 21st to 22nd September 2015 I participated in the NATO SET-227 Cognitive Radar Task Group held at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington DC.

From 9th to 11th September 2015 I attended DARPA’s “Wait, What? A Future Technology Forum” in St. Louis, Missouri. 


From 26th to 27th August 2015 I Chaired the Military Radar Summit and presented a paper “Cognitive Radar.” London, UK.

On 24th August 2015 I delivered a report: “Quantum Information Sciences and Technology (QIST) in the United Kingdom” for ATIP (g) to the Laboratory for Physical Sciences.


From 15th to 18th June 2015 I delivered ATI short course: EW / ELINT with Digital Signal Processing in Columbia, MD.

From 2nd to 4th June 2015 I delivered ATI short course: C4ISR Requirements, Principles, and Systems at Wight Patterson AFB, Ohio.


From 11th to 15th May 2015 I attended the 2015 IEEE International Radar Conference, Arlington, VA. I was the International Participation Co-Chair.

On 8th May 2015 I visited Clyde Space Glasgow, Scotland, with Dr Lindsay Millard of DARPA Tactical Technology Office.

From 2nd to 5th May 2015 I attended the 8th International Conference on Information-Theoretic Security (ICITS) Lugano, Switzerland


From 24th April to 2nd May 2015 I participated in the European tour of International Research Assessment on Nanomodular Materials and Systems by Design for the National Science Foundation.

I presented a half day short course on Tactical Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance in London on 22 April 2015.


On 23rd March 2015 I presented an invited seminar: “Radar Research at University College London.” Nanjing Research Institute of Electronics Technology, Nanjing, China.


I presented a Tactical Communications Overview short course and attended SMi Mobile Deployable Communications 2015 in Prague, Czech Republic from 4th to 6th February 2015.


On 8th January 2015, I presented a lecture on Combat Electronic Warfare Operations in Southeast Asia for the RADAR Electronic Warfare Course, Defence Academy of the United Kingdom, Shrivenham, UK.

Activities 2014


9th to 10th December 2014 I presented a paper - Operational Considerations for Passive Bistatic Radar - at the 1st RADAR Symposium, Saudi Arabia in Riyadh.

I presented an SMi Master Class on Principles, Systems, and Technologies for C4ISR in London on 4th December 2014For more information, download the flyer.


I attended the SMi Military Radar Conference from 28th to 30th October 2014.

From 13th to 17th October 2014 I attended RADAR 2014 in Lille, France. The conference was organised by the French SEE Society (Société de l'Electricité, de l'Electronique, et des Technologies de l'Information et de la Communication).

On 3rd October 2014 I visited the Royal Military Academy in Brussels, Belgium to become familiarised with the radar lab.

On 2nd October 2014 I met with EU Spectrum Management staff in Brussels, Belgium.


From 29th to 30th September 2014 I attended the NATO STO Specialists’ Meeting SET-204 on “Waveform Diversity,” Berlin, Germany.

From 23rd to 24th September 2014 I participated in the Littoral Combat and Technology Workshop, Stockholm, Sweden.

From 4th to 5th September 2014 I participated in the UCL-Duke University Workshop on Sensing and Analysis of High-Dimensional Data, held at University College London.


From 26th to 29th August 2014 I attended the PACOM S&T Conference in Honolulu, HI.

From 20th to 22nd August 2014 I was attending various meetings at DARPA in Arlington, VA.


On 30th July 2014 I visited the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom in Shrivenham, where I gave a seminar on Space Based Maritime Domain Awareness.

From 18th to 27th July 2014 I  participated in a NSF/WTEC Asian Biomedical Engineering and Manufacturing Tour, visiting various universities and research institutes, China.

From 2nd to 7th July 2014 I attended various meetings at DARPA, Arlington, VA.


From 24th to 25th June 2014 I participated in the NATO System Concepts and Integration (SCI) Panel SCI-274 Workshop on Verification and Validation of Autonomous Systems, held at Imperial College, London.


On 23rd May 2014, I participated in NSF Neuroimaging Final Workshop by video conference from London.

From 21rd to 22nd May 2014 I attended SMi Military Robotics Conference in London.

On 2nd May 2014 I gave a seminar on Space Based Maritime Domain Awareness at University College London.

From 12th to 14th March 2014 I attended various meetings at DARPA including SHIELD Proposer's Day in Arlington, VA.


From 24th to 26th February 2014 I gave a paper on Maritime Domain Awareness beyond AIS at the Defence iQ C4ISR Summit in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

On 17th February 2014 I attended IET Colloquium on Ground Penetrating Radar, University College London.

From 13th to 14th February 2014 I participated in a meeting of the NATO SET-207 RTG on Passive Bistatic Radar Technology, Paris.

On 5th February 2014 I presented an International S&T Snapshot to DARPA International Staff.


From 28th to 30th January 2014 I attended Defence iQ Directed Energy Systems Conference in London.

On 21st January 2014 I attended a meeting at Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Lab, Laurel, MD.

From 15th to 16th January 2014 I attended various meetings at DARPA in Arlington, VA.
